Sierra Vista Runners Club
By Anthony Giacoletto
Sierra Vista Runners Club is an after school program for Sierra Vista students who are interested in staying active. You will do physical activities in this club with other students who also enjoy staying healthy.
Mr. Drabinski is the teacher in charge of Runners Club for at least the next two years. If you are interested, you can either ask him for an application or print one off of his website next year. Right now the times are Mondays after school from 2:15 to 3:15. However, Mr. Drabinski is working on getting more hours and days to meet for next school year. Just meet up at the field in your P.E. uniform and wait for the rest of the club.
In this club, running isn’t going to be the only thing you’ll do. You will also use the fitness center and focus on aerobics as well. If you join Runners Club you will have the opportunity to represent our school during off campus events. These events include the Fall Hart District Track Meet and Spring Santa Clarita Track Meet.
If you are interested, just remember to ask Mr. Drabinski next year. If you enjoy running, aerobics, and going to track events give it a try!

NCAA March Madness Basketball
By Cade Luongo
It is time for March Madness! The College basketball season is coming to an end, which means that the excitement is only beginning. College teams compete to “survive and advance” through the legendary NCAA tournament. For 75 years, the tournament has entertained and excited Americans by introducing legends such as John Wooden and UCLA, Michael Jordan and North Carolina, or Magic Johnson and Michigan State. Whether you are excited about brackets, upsets, or just plain basketball, March is the month for your “madness.”
College basketball is an exciting sport by itself, and even more so when you include such charismatic characters as Dick Vitale covering the action. Fans are drawn to the sport by the intense rivalries, thrilling competition, unbelievable underdogs, and miraculous buzzer-beaters. Each year, college teams compete hoping to qualify for the tournament and become one of the 68 best teams in the nation. They can gain a spot by winning their conference tournament, or by earning an impressive record against respectable opponents. After successfully qualifying for the tournament, the persistence of a team will be tested as they attempt to advance past their competition. Players are motivated by the glory of the NCAA championship title, and pull off unbelievable successes in their effort.
This year, the Final Four (semifinals and finals) of the NCAA Basketball Tournament were held in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome. There the most exciting games of the tournament were held and a National Champion was crowned. Louisville won the tournament, and witnessed a tragedy during their quarterfinal game. Their player, Kevin Ware, broke his leg (horribly split it in half) trying to block the other team’s shot, and naturally received loads of media attention following the incident. Louisville success then became a way to support Ware’s horrible injury as well as keep their reputation as the tournament’s top seed.
In addition to watching games, fans enjoy predicting the outcome of the tournament by choosing brackets each year. This year, many people have gotten their brackets wrong thanks to the many upsets during this year’s tournament. No one expected the fifteen seed Florida Gulf Coast University to beat number two seed Georgetown, for instance.
March Madness provides something for all of us. It gives us entertainment in the pure form of a college playoff environment, and allows us to express your intellectual side when picking brackets. Whether you are a coach, player, or just a sports fan looking for excitement, you will love the “Madness.”
