Graduation Celebrations
By Katie Larlee
Summer is coming up, and at the end of the year, the 8th graders want to have some fun after a long, stressful school year. Eighth graders are rewarded for their good behavior and grades. The two main activities that will be going on this year is the Magic Mountain trip and the 8th Grade BBQ.
This year the 8th graders will be taking a field trip to Magic Mountain on May 10. It costs $50, but includes many fun amenities such as dinner, dessert, a souvenir picture, a t-shirt, and a DJ in addition to park admission. Students will leave Sierra Vista on that Friday at 11:40 am and will stay there until 9:30 pm. Magic Mountain closes that day at 6, but all the 8th graders from many SCV junior high schools will be staying past park hours. Students can buy tickets now through April 30th in the ASB office. There is an information packet for students for more information about this fun trip in the ASB office.
On May 31, the last day of school, 8th graders do not have to come to school until 9 am. Mrs. Bennett, our assistant principal, describes this as a “sleep in day.” When 8th grade students come to school, they go to the annual 8th Grade BBQ. It will take place on the big field. This fun activity does not cost anything, but donations are appreciated. There will be a game truck, a DJ, lunch, and more! It is a great way to end your last year as a junior high student. The BBQ ends at noon.
Additionally, individual teams are taking field trips. Team Icons are going to the Wax Museum and the Ripley’s Museum in Hollywood. The Supreme team is going to the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood to watch Iron Man 3. The Majestics are going to Santa Barbara. Also, some electives are taking field trips.
For more information on these fun 8th grade activities you can ask your teachers. It is fun to enjoy a day off at the end of a year of hard work and to celebrate your last year as a junior high student.
